We welcome all donations of tools, equipment, materials, furniture etc. We have a lease agreement that we sign when something is not an outright donation. We do reserve the right to politely refuse equipment, furniture or materials we feel might not get enough use in our space. Storage is our biggest problem and everything needs to work to earn its keep. If something is an outright donation and we don’t have use for it we will pass it on through our networks to a worthy recipient or cause. But we will still be very grateful for the gesture none the less! Where we can reciprocate we do but any services etc. In kind is at the discretion of the management.
Volunteering to help at Maker Station
We welcome all the help we can get to make this place the coolest maker space in Africa. So we have set up job-cards on a notice board. Each job has a value that you can negotiate and we will give you a coupon code to pass on or redeem with your account in return for your efforts. Non members are welcome to volunteer, but as our reward scheme work with members only, they will need to register to use these, they will get free coffee though!
Master (Honorary) Makers
We have a class of Maker that we honour as Master Makers, they get free reign of Maker Station, free coffee and in return for roaming the building dispensing wisdom, advice, constructive criticism and war stories from their youth, they also get coupon codes for discounts on their account, for every hour here.
They are a rare breed so if you do know of an Oomie or Tannie somewhere that you know about that fitted the under carriage to the 1st steam train, turned the banister posts for parliament, knitted socks for Queen Victoria … or some young buck that can build a copy of the international space station out of Arduino. And you can convince them to come hang out, play and dispense wisdom to us sponges, send them our way.
